Welcome to the Hydrology and Water Quality Lab, a dynamic and innovative research group in Virginia Tech’s Department of Biological Systems Engineering. Our broad mission is to improve the understanding of physical, chemical, and biological processes related to water flow with the ultimate goal of protecting water, soil, air and other natural resources and ecological function. Our research spans scales ranging from pore to small catchment to major river basin, and we have projects throughout the United States and the world.

Our group is largely interdisciplinary with members backgrounds in hydrology, chemistry, biology, and ecological engineering and our collaborators work in fields from extension education to agricultural economics to climate science. The lab considers a broad  spectrum of basic and applied research questions and is committed to developing water resources tools that are scientifically valid and usable within appropriate environmental, social, and economic contexts. Please take a moment to see the latest from our group.
